LightRaiders in Training
DragonRaid is an exciting game system that drops you into an action adventure story for spiritual learning and fun. It is the next closest thing to taking part in a thrilling mission.
When you play DragonRaid, you decide your character’s with no more knowledge about the challenges and dangers your character faces than if you were actually there.
You and others make decisions for characters who face danger, resist temptation, and fight evil in an allegorical story world. During the simulation, you will apply scriptures in the form of micro-prayers that call for aid. These are WordRunes. By applying WordRunes in the allegorical story, you will learn how the same scriptures apply to real life.
In the DragonRaid Adventure Learning Simulation, a lightraider’s greatest purpose is to serve the Rescuer, the son of the High One who saved the Keledan and loves all people. The Rescuer represents Jesus Christ.
• Lightraiders rescue Aladoth. These are humans among the dragon-oppressed people groups of the Dragon Lands.
• Lightraiders fight dark creatures like orcs, goblins, muks, and trolls, and they foil the dragons’ many evil schemes.
• Lightraiders employ and develop their Character Strengths, which represent the Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23.
• Developing Character Strengths develops a lightraider’s ability to use armor, skills, WordRunes, and physical weapons.
DragonRaid is a general system using an extensive fantasy world. While it employs some role playing game (RPG) mechanics, it is radically different from RPGs in that it uses the player’s imagination to develop and nurture a walk with God. DragonRaid is desgined for learning. In this way, it ma have a more structured feel than true RPGs.
DragonRaid was designed wit one purpose in mind: to strengthen individual believers as members of one body. As such, it reinforces the need for Christians to depend upon one another. This is why lightraiders always set out as “raid teams.”
DragonRaid is a developmental tool for believers, rather than an evangelical tool. LightRaider Academy is developing companion tools for outreach (see the inside back cover).
The dark creatures in DragonRaid are soulless animations of the dragons. They are corruptions of creation, not sentient created beings. When lightraider characters destroy dark creatures, they are attacking allegorical sin to aid player learning. The WordRunes applied match the scriptures the player might reference when battling the same sin or evil in the world.
The DragonRaid fantasy world offers endless adventure. We invite small group leaders to use the allegorical system to simulate all the trials, temptations, and joys of an exciting Christian life.
